August is Black Business Month, a time to celebrate Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs whose creativity and resilience continue to shape industries like beauty, wellness, and handmade skincare. At Earth Tu Face - we’re proud to shine a light on the incredible hands and hearts behind our organic, botanical products. This month, we honor one of our own: Karen Bell, who has been lovingly crafting Earth Tu Face products for the past seven years.
Born and raised in Northern California to a family of educators, Karen’s path has always been guided by service, integrity, and care. She spent three decades in education, founding and co-directing a school for inner-city children in Oakland, before turning her focus to health and wellness through food. Her healthy food restaurant became a hub for nourishing the community, especially children, with better choices for their bodies and futures.
It was during this time that her journey intersected with Earth Tu Face skincare, a brand created to heal sensitive skin with organic botanicals. Listening to her community’s needs - skin health alongside food health - Karen stepped into the world of clean botanical skincare, carrying her lifelong mission of healing and support forward in a new way.
For Karen, creating skincare by hand is more than a craft - it’s a philosophy.
“We get what we need from the earth. What’s good for the earth is good for us.”
Each scrub, cleanser, and balm she makes is a reflection of that belief: organic, sustainable, and rooted in care. Her favorite products? The cleansers and scrubs—so pure and nourishing she jokes they’re good enough to eat.

As a woman of color in the beauty industry, Karen’s presence and leadership are both revolutionary and deeply necessary.
“Being a woman of color in this business is not just a career, it’s a revolution rooted in authenticity, heritage, and resilience. My presence challenges outdated standards and opens doors for others who have never seen themselves reflected in the mainstream.”
Her words remind us that making skincare is not just about the products—it’s about planting seeds of change, inspiring others to follow their dreams, and ensuring representation within industries that shape daily life and self-expression.
At Earth Tu Face, we believe in collaboration, transparency, and creating with intention. Karen embodies these values fully, showing that true beauty is built on community and care.
